Strike Energy targets first gas from West Erregulla in 2029
The Perth Basin gas company has told an industry conference it is aiming for first gas from West Erregulla in 2029, but it has given a year rather than a date.

Strike Energy (ASX:STX) is targeting first gas from its West Erregulla project in 2029, according to a presentation at the Australian Domestic Gas Outlook Conference on 1 April 2026. The company said only that it is "targeting first gas in 2029", so the timing could fall anywhere in that calendar year.
What Strike is today
Strike describes itself as an established gas producer, supplying Perth Basin gas to the Western Australian domestic market from its Walyering operation. It also holds about 3,000 square kilometres of acreage in the basin.
The April presentation said the company was building 85 MW of integrated peaking power, "on track for 1 October 2026". Later announcements include one on 11 June 2026 titled "South Erregulla Power Station Reaches Mechanical Completion". The company has also published a Walyering reserves statement on 17 August and a webinar titled "West Erregulla Unlocked" on 1 September.
Why 2029 matters
If West Erregulla delivers first gas on that schedule, it would add a second gas source to Strike's Western Australian business alongside Walyering. That is an inference, and it depends on the project staying on schedule. No interest or resource estimate for West Erregulla accompanies the statement, so its size relative to the rest of the company is not stated.
The wider asset list
Strike's other disclosed assets are mostly early-stage prospective resources. These are estimates of volumes that have not yet been drilled and proven, and several are dated:
- Booth: gas, 279 bcf (P50), 25% interest, estimated April 2024
- Becos: oil, 5 mmbbl (P50), 25% interest, estimated March 2025
- Booth Footwall: oil, 3.2 mmbbl (P50), January 2024, interest not disclosed
- Bear River: oil, 0.5 mmbbl (P50), 33.75% interest, estimated November 2006
- Baniyas: gas, 24 bcf (P50), estimated April 2013, interest not disclosed
Other listed prospects include Alamo Ranch, Bobtail and Booth Cattamarra sst, none with a disclosed interest. Some of these estimates are more than a decade old.
What remains uncertain
A 2029 target is three years away, and the company has given no month or quarter. It has not stated a cost or funding plan for West Erregulla in the April statement. The presentation also carries the usual caution that forward-looking targets can change.
Whether the 1 October 2026 power target was met is not confirmed in the announcements listed here.
