History
Trekor Metals refinanced its debt twice, bought up more of the Gibraltar copper mine, won the final permit for Florence Copper, and raised US$170 million in equity in October 2025.
2017-2020: Refinancing the balance sheet
The record opens in 2017 with a debt clean-up. On May 30, 2017 the company (filing as Taseko Mines Limited, tracked here as Trekor Metals) began offering US$250 million of Senior Secured Notes. They were priced on June 7 at an 8.75% interest rate and issued at 99% of face value, secured by the shares of Gibraltar Mines Ltd. and the company's rights under the Gibraltar joint venture agreement. The deal closed on June 14. With US$54.5 million of cash, the proceeds redeemed the 2019 notes (US$203.8 million), repaid a secured credit facility (US$79.4 million) and bought out the lender's copper call option (US$11.9 million). The company said this reduced total debt and pushed maturity out to 2022. Shares on issue were 226,999,734 at the end of 2017. The record then goes quiet until November 2020, when the company announced a US$23 million bought deal, a share sale underwritten by dealers, plus up to US$2 million in a private placement. Shares stood at 282,115,024 at the end of 2020, up from 246,194,219 at the end of 2019, though the beats do not link the two.
2021-2022: Paving the way for Florence
In February 2021 the company completed a US$400 million offering of 7.0% Senior Secured Notes due February 2026. Part of the money redeemed the 2022 notes, leaving about US$131 million for capital spending, working capital and general purposes. Management said it had about US$200 million of cash, no significant debt maturities until 2026, and was moving ahead with the Florence Copper commercial facility in Arizona, estimated at US$230 million. In October 2021 it added a US$50 million revolving credit facility from National Bank of Canada, which it did not plan to draw at closing.
The Florence project depended on an Underground Injection Control permit from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). An initial draft arrived in November 2021, and a public draft followed in August 2022, with a 45-day comment period. In March 2022 the company reported a new Gibraltar reserve of 706 million tons, up 40%, extending mine life to 23 years. The increase was tied to a higher long-term copper price assumption and updated pit designs. In December 2022 it signed with Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.): US$50 million through a stream on 2.67% of Florence copper, plus an option to invest another US$50 million for a 10% equity interest, and an offtake for 81% of the cathode in the initial years.
2023-2024: More of Gibraltar, and a permit
In February 2023 the company signed a deal to buy Sojitz's 50% of Cariboo Copper, the 25% Gibraltar joint venture partner. The price was a minimum C$60 million over five years plus contingent payments capped at C$57 million. It closed in March 2023, lifting the company's effective Gibraltar interest from 75% to 87.5%. In September 2023 the EPA issued the final Florence permit. The company said it could start construction and was still talking to lenders and royalty providers for the remaining financing.
In March 2024 it agreed to buy the remaining 12.5% of Gibraltar from Dowa and Furukawa, for a minimum C$117 million over ten years and a cap of C$142 million. In April 2024 it sold US$500 million of 8.25% Senior Secured Notes due 2030, intended partly to redeem the 2026 notes. Shares rose from 289,999,596 at the end of 2023 to 304,675,195 at the end of 2024; the beats do not explain this.
2025-2026: Fresh equity
On October 22, 2025 the company closed a bought deal share financing for gross proceeds of US$170 million. The beats do not give the price or intended use. Shares on issue reached 361,099,176 at the end of 2025. As of the latest update in July 2026, the record does not confirm that the 2026 notes were redeemed or that the Dowa/Furukawa purchase closed. Florence was in ramp-up, and the Yellowhead copper project was in an environmental assessment process that began in July 2025.
