History
From a A$4.2m ASX listing in 2022, the company found one of the Americas' largest lithium pegmatite deposits and by 2026 had a feasibility study, caesium upside and C$176m cash.
2022-2023: Listing and the Corvette discovery
Patriot Battery Metals joined the ASX on 5 December 2022, selling 7,000,000 CDIs (securities that represent company shares) at A$0.60 each to raise A$4.2 million. Its focus was the Corvette area in Quebec, where drilling at the CV5 pegmatite (a rock body that can hold lithium) quickly delivered. Hole CV22-083 returned 156.9 m at 2.12% lithium oxide, and the high-grade 'Nova Zone' was traced to about 1.1 km by May 2023. Early tests suggested a simple dense media process could make spodumene concentrate (the lithium product) without flotation.
The company raised about C$50 million in March 2023 through flow-through shares at C$22.57. It also rejected a short-seller report in July. On 31 July 2023 it announced a maiden CV5 resource of 109.2 Mt at 1.42% Li2O, which it called the largest lithium pegmatite resource in the Americas. Wildfires halted site work in June.
2023-2024: Albemarle, more drilling and a new resource
In August 2023 Albemarle agreed to buy 7,128,341 shares at C$15.29 (about C$109 million) and signed a non-binding agreement to study a downstream lithium hydroxide plant. That agreement ended by mutual consent in May 2024, leaving the company free to talk to other partners. Meanwhile drilling grew to as many as ten rigs. Winter 2024 drilling totalled 62,518 m, and a new high-grade CV13 zone, later named Vega, emerged.
A C$75 million flow-through raising at C$14.54 closed in mid-2024. Leadership changed too: Ken Brinsden became CEO and Pierre Boivin became Chair. The August 2024 resource update gave 80.1 Mt Indicated and 62.5 Mt Inferred, alongside an Exploration Target of 146-231 Mt. A preliminary study that month showed pre-tax NPV8% of C$4.7 billion, needing C$1,373.5 million of funding.
2024-2025: Volkswagen and caesium
In December 2024 Volkswagen agreed to invest about C$69 million for 15,557,500 shares at C$4.42, about 9.9% of the company. The deal closed in January 2025 and included a binding PowerCo offtake of 100,000 tonnes a year of concentrate for 10 years. The 2024 programme finished with 431 holes and 128,052 m.
The drill core also revealed caesium, a possible by-product, at CV13. A May 2025 resource showed 108.0 Mt Indicated at 1.40% Li2O and 33.3 Mt Inferred. A maiden caesium resource followed in July 2025.
2025-2026: Feasibility study and more money
The October 2025 feasibility study, for lithium only, gave a maiden Probable Reserve of 84.3 Mt at 1.26% Li2O. Capex was about C$1,978 million, after-tax NPV8% about C$1,594 million and IRR about 18.1%, with a final investment decision targeted for the second half of 2027. Costs were higher and returns lower than the 2024 study (C$1,373.5 million; 34% IRR).
The company agreed in November 2025 to buy the Pikwa Property for 841,916 shares plus royalties. Late-2025 drilling found new lithium discoveries at CV4 and CV12, and a new Helios zone. Caesium results at Vega reached 28.0 m at 8.05% Cs2O. In February 2026 two financings closed for about C$138 million gross, at C$5.66 per share and about C$9.30 for flow-through shares. The board also formed a Technical Committee.
2026: Permitting, testwork and community talks
The environmental and social impact assessment went to Quebec on 2 April 2026, later than the late-2025 target. The federal regulator deemed it complete in May. Non-binding support letters for project financing came from EDC, KfW IPEX-Bank and another Canadian institution, though none is a lending commitment.
A pilot program made 4.47 tonnes of 6.09% Li2O concentrate at 89.0% recovery. The company began caesium testwork with Koch Technology Solutions, and bench tests extracted 97-98% of caesium. A concept study favoured Primero's process for making lithium carbonate on site. A non-binding letter of intent with the Cree Nation of Chisasibi, signed in July, is explicitly not consent.
By 30 June 2026 the company, since renamed PMET Resources, held C$176.2 million cash. Its latest beat shows the capex of about C$1,978 million still to be funded. The 2026 drill campaign, financing talks, permitting reviews and caesium work were all continuing.
