17 Sept 2012annual report● Neutral
Annual financial report for the year to 30 June 2012. The portion provided is the directors' report and board details, including that Reg Nelson left the board on 1 August 2012. The financial figures are not in the text supplied.
Petrology and assays confirm coarse flake graphite at Wilclo South: a surface sample assayed 22.9% graphitic carbon and drill samples up to 29.9%. Monax plans 4-6 weeks of further testing before more drilling. This builds on the 29 August drill results.
Monax Alliance, the Antofagasta-backed vehicle, signed a non-binding term sheet with ERO Mining for four months' exclusive due diligence on the Northern Gawler Craton copper-gold project, with a 900-station gravity survey planned. An 80% farm-in is possible but terms are not final.
ERO Mining's version of the non-binding term sheet giving Monax Alliance four months' exclusivity to assess its Northern Gawler Craton copper-gold project. A farm-in could follow: Monax Alliance would earn 80% by spending up to US$4m over three years (minimum US$400,000 firm commitment).
Marmota reports a 3.8km copper-gold-in-calcrete anomaly on its West Melton tenement, extending onto the Melton JV ground Monax shares 50:50 with Marmota. Follow-up sampling is planned, with aircore drilling after harvest. Third-party sampling result, not drilling.
Maiden Waddikee graphite drilling hit 15m @ 16.3% graphitic carbon and 9m @ 14.8% at Wilclo South, now the main focus. Lacroma gave 60m @ 6.6% (not considered economic). Balumbah, Cut Snake and Wilclo were weak, with no further work planned at Cut Snake or Wilclo.
Diamond drilling began at Punt Hill under the Antofagasta farm-in, funded by its US$2.5m budget. Seven to eight holes are planned from 14 identified sites, testing a skarn system well over 10km long.
Monax finished its maiden Waddikee graphite drilling. The release's figure for total metres was garbled and was corrected in the amended version issued the same day. Assays were still pending.
Amended release fixing a garbled figure in the earlier announcement: 40 holes totalling 2,908m were completed at Waddikee, with graphite seen at all five prospects. No new information.
Non-executive director Reg Nelson resigned after nearly eight years on the board (since August 2004), citing his other commitments as Managing Director of Beach Energy. No replacement was named.
June 2012 quarter: the Punt Hill MIMDAS survey was cancelled because contractors were unavailable, though drilling is still planned for late August. OM Manganese withdrew from Waddikee, and the first graphite exploration began. Quarter-end cash was $2.5m (per the July presentation).
July 2012 presentation repeating known projects and plans. It shows cash of $2.5m at 30 June 2012 and 149.5m shares on issue. Punt Hill drilling is planned for late August.
Petrology confirmed coarse flake graphite at Cut Snake, Wilclo and Wilclo South, with mean flake lengths of 0.5-0.8mm. Together with Argent and Balumbah, that makes five prospects with coarse flake graphite. Drilling is still under way.
Monax began its first graphite drilling at Waddikee: about 58 holes totalling 4,700m across seven priority targets, expected to take about four weeks. A follow-up program is planned for late 2012 after the cropping season.
New surface sampling found more coarse flake graphite at Cut Snake and Wilclo on Waddikee, with samples sent for assay. Maiden graphite drilling is now planned for late July or early August, and landowners have approved the drilling plans.
OM Holdings says its manganese arm will focus Australian exploration on the Northern Territory and withdraw from South Australian farm-ins. For Monax, this signals the end of the OMM Waddikee earn-in; it is a third-party announcement.
4 June 2012farm in farm out completion● NeutralMajor
OM Manganese withdrew from the Waddikee farm-in without earning any interest, so Monax keeps 100% of the project. This ends the A$2m manganese/iron earn-in and leaves Monax free to pursue graphite and iron.
Further Waddikee rock samples assayed up to 19.84% carbon, and a new area north of Lacroma gave 13.94%. Re-assays of 136 manganese drill samples reached 3.45% carbon. Maiden graphite drilling is still being planned for later in 2012.
Waddikee drilling (45 holes, 2,306m) gave manganese up to 29% Mn in single metres at Polinga; Jamieson Tank best was 6m @ 12.4% Mn. No new thick high-grade body was reported, and graphite was hit in several holes.
Argent graphite samples assayed 10.24% to 16.04% carbon with flakes up to 2mm; Stanley returned 2.54%. Monax calls Argent a high priority target and is planning a maiden graphite drilling program.
March 2012 quarter: cash $2.9m (from $3m). Waddikee manganese drilling finished (45 holes, 2,306m) and graphite work began. Monax is relinquishing Queensland tenements and let the Chile option lapse. Marmota stake is worth $2.23m.
A second coarse graphite site, at Balumbah on Waddikee, assayed 9.97% carbon with flakes up to 2mm. Monax says this gives confidence the area is prospective for graphite. Drill-hole sample results are due in 4-6 weeks.
Sampling at Waddikee's Argent and Stanley prospects found coarse graphite flakes up to 2mm, confirmed by petrology. Assays are pending, and an accelerated graphite program is planned with drilling in 2H 2012. Early-stage reconnaissance only.
Antofagasta approved up to US$2.5m for 2012 Punt Hill exploration, taking total spend to US$4m over the first two years; about US$1.5m is already spent. A MIMDAS survey starts in 4-8 weeks, with six to eight holes planned for 2H 2012.
After a project review, Monax will focus on South Australia and let the Chile iron sands option lapse. Punt Hill MIMDAS survey is due shortly with drilling in 2H 2012; a new Phar Lap copper-gold project has two targets; four alliance project areas are under application.
Monax's board approved a graphite-focused exploration strategy at Waddikee, after finding more than 20 historical drill holes reporting graphite. Mapping and sampling come after the manganese drilling, then drilling. This is a new direction beyond manganese; no assays yet.
Drilling began at Waddikee: 45 holes (2,250m) to test induced polarisation anomalies at Hodgins, Polinga and Jamieson Tank for manganese. Results are expected mid-May 2012. OM (Manganese) is earning 60% by funding A$2m over four years.
Half-year to 31 December 2011: net loss $1,071,950. Four Punt Hill holes found only minor copper in one hole, and further Punt Hill drilling is planned for the second half of 2012. Dr Alley resigned on 16 November 2011.
